Yet another report in the news today of children being left to fend for themselves while the parent leaves them alone at home.
Today a 36-year-old woman was arrested after her home caught fire with her children inside alone. The six children aged from 8 months to 11-years, had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze began in the kitchen of their home.
All of the children had to be taken to hospital to be treated for the effects of smoke inhalation but were later discharged.
Neighbours fortunately saw smoke and called the fire service who broke down a door to rescue the children from an upstairs bedroom at 10pm last night.
What was this woman thinking, she had allegedly put a wok on the stove before temporarily leaving the property and locking the front door, according to neighbours.
In June there was the case of a 22-year-old woman in Lincoln, who left her 2-year-old toddler penned into the kitchen of her flat while she went away for the weekend with her boyfriend.
While she was away, the flat flooded and the toddler was found in filthy clothes stood in inches of water sobbing.
He had been forced to sleep on dirty laundry for a bed and to eat of plates left on the floor. He was rescued only after the water from the flooding seeped through to the flat below.
In September there was the report of a woman who went away on honeymoon, leaving her three children aged 11,6 and 5, to fend for themselves at their home in Leeds.
Although all the children were found well, who in their right mind would do that, they are children for god’s sake and it’s a parents job to look after them.
It is just so wrong to leave a child alone for any length of time, anything could happen. Madeline McCann was left alone in an apartment where her parents thought she would be safe and the unthinkable happened, when are parents going to learn.
