I read an unbelievable story today of a mother who is trying to help her adopted Down’s syndrome son lose his virginity by setting up a Bebo web page to advertise the fact.
Her son, Otto is 21 and the mother is said to be a leading campaigner on the rights of Down’s syndrome sufferers and argues that her son is no different from many 21-year-old boys.
The mother is so keen for her boy to have sex that she allegedly said that she had thought about him visiting a prostitute!
The boy claims to be looking for a girlfriend for sex but it appears to me that the sex is more important, no mention of a relationship. The mother also states in the story that she would love to be a grandmother one day and would love it if he got a girlfriend pregnant although she would prefer the girl not to be Down’s syndrome.
This story is so wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. The mother says that,
“If he doesn’t get a girlfriend, I will feel really bad because I have sold him this thing that he is like everybody else.”
Why would you do that, he isn’t and he most of all must be aware of that, he is so vulnerable at the very least.
Surely good parenting would be encouraging your children to developing friendships and relationships rather than the need to get their leg-over before they reach a certain age.
After the interference from his mother he is now likely to attract exactly the sort of woman that everyone else would want their children to avoid, an utter disgrace.
