Seven Killed By Boy Racer

foolOn Friday the horrific road accident which took the lives of seven people and left two children fighting for their lives could have been avoided according to relatives of the victims who said Brain should never have been allowed back on the road.

The crash happened on the A429 between Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire on Friday 7th March 2008.

Jason Brain, 35 years old, in his Peugeot 306 crashed head-on with a VW Passat with a combined impact speed of 120mph as he tried to overtake a Kia. He was killed along with his three passengers, his friend Michola Jones, 31, his daughter, Natasha Didcote, 15, and his cousin Ryan Bott, 20.

The victims in the Passat were, John Kirby, 53, his wife Margaret, 61, and their daughter Julie, 34 , who all died and their two grandchildren, Adam Stone 10, and Sophie 9, are in Bristol hospital in critical condition. Adam who received head injuries, had emergency surgery on Saturday, where friends said the operation was to rebuild his face, and his sister Sophie is said to have serious stomach injuries.

In 2001 Brain, received a five year driving ban and two years probation after he was convicted of causing a head-on crash while twice over the drink-drive limit. His ban had finished and on Friday he was involved in another head-on crash on the same road .

Cynthia Barlow, one of the campaigners for the group ‘Roadpeace’, said “We need to consider life time bans if people consistently show that they disobey the law.” No, I disagree with you there, if you get caught once drink-driving then it should be a life time ban, there’s no excuse, if you want to drink then you don’t drive. I am sick of hearing “oh! I’ve only had one”, zero tolerance!

An aunt of Brain’s daughter, who was killed in the crash said “He had been getting away with driving offences all his life. He was the kind of bloke who was asking to get killed every time he went out on the road. It’s just a tragedy he had to take the six other people with him.”

The mother of Ryan Bott, said Brain had “done it before and he’s done it again. Ryan should never have got in the car with him. It was a stupid, stupid mistake. He’s just not safe.”

Brain’s previous ban in 2001, was after his Ford Granada hit a Volkswagon Vento head-on while he was trying to overtake a lorry in August 2000. Fortunately the occupants a married couple and their eight month old baby were not killed. The wife and baby were uninjured but the husband had to be cut from the wreckage and suffered whiplash, concussion, blurred vision and cuts and bruises. However, Brain ran away from the accident and was found by police at his girlfriends house where a breath test proved he was twice over the limit. He pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving without due care and attention, driving with no insurance and failing to stop after an accident.

Because of this idiot’s actions, whole families have been destroyed. He deserved what he got but it seems so unfair that all those other people had to die or are critically injured just so he could prove how fast he could drive. This was no accident, when someone drives as he did it’s murder. Police are said to be investigating claims that Brain had been drinking before this incident took place.
