There is to be new evidence expected today in the inquest of the little boy, Liam Hogan, who was tragically killed when his father leapt of a balcony holding him and his sister while on holiday in Crete.
The family from Bristol, were staying at the Petra Mare Hotel in Crete. John Hogan and his wife Natasha with their children, 6 year old Liam and 2 year old Mia were on a family holiday which was said to be a “make or break” attempt to save the couples troubled marriage.
On the night of the tragedy, Mrs Hogan described her husband as “agitated” and had asked him to “calm down” but he had become increasingly angry. They argued while she was packing the cases with her back towards the balcony and when she turned around he had disappeared over the edge with the children.
Liam Hogan died from head injuries and Mia amazingly survived with only a broken arm.
Unbelievably, John Hogan who also survived the fall, was cleared by a Greek Court who ruled he was ”incapable” of murder back in January. He was placed in a psychiatric unit for a minimum of three years.
President Paraskeri Kiraleou, the senior judge at the trial said “His responsibility was diminished.”
Mrs Hogan sobbed after the verdict and said “This result albeit somewhat unexpected, has left me feeling that Liam lost his young life for nothing. I accept that an act in the moment of complete madness was uncharacteristic of John. But to have done this to our own children is unforgivable. I know that we will all miss Liam, but it is Mia and I who are left to rebuild our lives without a loving caring son and brother.”
It has since come to light that John allegedly hurled Liam from the balcony and jumped with Mia in his arms, and today the court will hear from new witnesses which is likely to prove this was the case.
According to various psychiatrists, Mr Hogan was far away from reality and he did not know what he was doing. That’s fair enough, the man was ill, but he did do it. He murdered his son and he attempted to murder his daughter, he deserves to face the death penalty but as that is not allowed in this country yet, then just leave him to rot somewhere, he does not deserve to live and I hope that his daughter grows-up to hate him as much as his ex-wife must. How many times have we heard that they couldn’t bear to leave someone behind, tough, if he wanted to die then he should have just gone off and done it and left those innocent children to live their lives. I have read endless comments from people about how John deserves our sympathy, well he doesn’t get mine. My sympathy is with little Liam’s caring mother and his lovely little sister who will never get to know what a wonderful child he was. I hope that they can somehow rebuild their lives and that Mr Hogan gets his wish of wanting to die.
