Buzzin Disgrace

Three teenage thugs were today jailed for life, which we all know does not mean life for the murder of Gary Newlove.

Mr Newlove confronted the youths about vandalism to vehicles in the street where he lived in Fearnhead on August 10th 2007.  He was punched to the ground and kicked repeatedly “as if he were a football” and died two days later at Warrington Hospital.

The three thugs were found guilty last month of murder where it emerged that one of the three, Adam Swellings, had been released from custody from an assault on a man in his 40’s only hours earlier.

Adam Swellings, 19 years old who has a criminal history for theft, battery, harassment, assault etc, received a minimum of 17 years, Stephen Sorton, aged 17, received a minimum of 15 years and Jordan Cunliffe, aged16, received a minimum of 12 years.

Swellings from Crewe, had been bailed from an earlier assault on condition that he stayed away from Warrington but instead he met up with the other two yobs and they went on a drink and drugs binge.

Judge, Andrew Smith said “you were three of a gang who attacked Garry Newlove only because he had the courage to remonstrate with you, for you all drunken aggression was part of the nights entertainment”.

Swelling had consumed four litres of cider and smoked drugs  that night paid for out of his dole money and as the oldest of the group took it upon himself to lead the confrontation and threw the first punch after approaching Mr Newlove from behind and knocking him to the ground .  Sorton who had drink 9-10 bottles of Stella Artois and one three litre bottle of Frosty Jacks cider only hours before the attack then kicked Mr Newlove with such force that his training shoe was wedged under the victims body.  The third yob, then 15 years old, joined in and was later heard boasting that “We’ve just banged a man and he’s not moving”.

Mrs Newlove has spoken of her families loss and for more action to be taken to tackle the problems caused by under-age drinking and anti-social behaviour on the streets.

These mindless thugs will probably be out within 10 years and back on our streets.  Why should they be given the chance to live normal lives, marry and have their own families after taking an innocent life, they have destroyed the lives of this family for their own pleasure.

Alcohol is again the major factor here, the laws need to be changed, why do the breweries keep increasing the alcohol content making it stronger.  Enough is enough, ban alcohol the same way in which tobacco is being wiped out.  More accidents are caused by alcohol than anything else in the world, so stop selling it or limit its sales.
